Success Stories

WOMENS RESOURCE CENTER OF TAMPAThe Women’s Resource Center of Tampa is unique because we work with families as long as it takes to get back on their feet.  Sometimes success with families is quick. However, most of the time, true life change takes time.

We assist people with their immediate needs, then deal with the long term life issues.

There is much joy for all of our staff and volunteers to see our families succeed, be safe and be stable.

Candice

Candice is an 18 year old, bright young girl. She has a full scholarship to college. She was raised in the foster care system in a home with 8 other children. She came to WRC after her foster family kicked her out on  a very cold night, leaving her with only the clothes she was wearing.

Women's Resource Center of Tampa helped Candice get an apartment of her own near college. We provided her with furniture, household items, clothes, linens and support. Candice is now being mentored by one of our community partners, is successful in school and is safe. She is learning how to budget, cook and live within her means.

Jack and Mary

Jack and Mary came to WRC after they lost their home. Jack has a fixed income and Mary homeschooled their son.  They had been staying in their car for 3 weeks. Jack would drive around town all night to keep his family safe in the car while they slept. They did not know where to turn.

One of our church partners referred them to Women's Resource Center of Tampa. Because of the generous donations from people in Brandon, we were able to help Jack and Mary get into a new apartment that was within their financial means, provide them furniture and household items to start their lives over again. Today Jack, Mary and Trent are safe, happy and stable.

Warren

WARRENWarren came to Women's Resource Center of Tampa in Jan 2010. He was alone, head down, shuffled in and asked for food. At 69 years old, Warren lived in his car and hadn’t showered or had clean clothes in months. He was suffering from kidney failure and was covered in urine. The smell was so strong it isolated him from any social contact with people.

It took 3 months of Warren coming by each week for food before we learned his story.  Warren had lived a colorful  life with a passion for music and politics. His radio name was “Rockin’ Warren” He wrote 2 books about the history of rock music.

Fortunately, Warren served a brief time in the military, so we were able to get medical care for him at the VA and housing for him in an assisted living facility. In November of 2010, Warren passed away. His last 6 months were full of joy. He loved the Lord, lived in a beautiful assisted living facility, received excellent medical care for the VA, and was surrounded by people who cared about him. It was an honor for all of us to be a part of the last year of Warren’s life.
